| I’m seeking a mature, responsible, financially stable housemate/cat caretaker starting summer 2024 through at least fall 2024, while I’m on sabbatical in Toronto. The home offers: • Own unfurnished bedroom, ½ attic / loft office, and living room (after mid-August) • In a beautiful “Murdock Mysteries” style Edwardian Kitchener Century house • Share kitchen and 1 full bathroom • Chef’s kitchen with professional gas range and lots of storage • No parking, but Midtown location is close to grocery store, all transit including to Toronto, and car share parking; possible parking space rentals in neighbourhood • House to yourself at least half the time • Front porch and front yard rain/perennial garden • Small, green, private backyard with hammock and dining table • Small side kitchen garden; space in front for more veggies • You would take care of my quiet, cheerful cat when I’m in Toronto • My large, friendly dog would be home with me when I’m home • Wonderful neighbours and neighbourhood This is the right place for you if: • You have a reasonably strong environmental ethics, sort food waste and recycle, and take reasonable care to be water and energy efficient • You would prefer to be in a spacious house over a small 1-bedroom apartment • It doesn’t bother you if the dog licks the dishes before they go in the dishwasher • You like sitting on the porch and chatting with the neighbours who come by • You enjoy sharing a healthy meal now and then • You like cats and would enjoy caring for, petting, and playing with the cat. (She virtually never tries to get on a zoom call.) • You don’t mind squeaky floors • Perfect for a visiting scholar, post-doc, or new faculty Requirements: • You do not use any personal or cleaning products with chemical scents or smoke or vape • Secure employment/income/funding commensurate with the rent costs • References, including employment, personal, and ideally for cat care • No additional pets (sorry) • Fluent in English or another language we both speak • No other overnight guests when I’m home, unless by special arrangement (i.e. out of town guests) |
